Single pair of multi-Weyl points in nonmagnetic crystals

چکیده
Topological semimetal states having the minimal number, i.e., only a single pair, of Weyl points are desirable for study effects associated with chiral topological charges. So far, search such is focused on magnetic spinful systems. Here, we find that nonmagnetic spinless systems can host class single-pair-Weyl-point (SP-WP) states, where two located at high-symmetry time-reversal-invariant momenta. We identify 32 candidate space groups and show charge each point in SP-WP state must be an even integer. Besides achieving far separated momentum space, making physics individual better exposed. The large separation combined lead to extended surface Fermi loops non-contractible winding topology Brillouin zone torus, distinct from conventional semimetals. confirm our proposal phonon spectra concrete materials TlBO$_2$ KNiIO$_6$. Weyl points and line nodes in gyroid photonic crystals
Weyl points and line nodes are three-dimensional linear point and line degeneracies between two bands. In contrast to two-dimensional Dirac points, which are their lower-dimensional analogues, Weyl points are stable in momentum space, and the associated surface states are predicted to be topologically non-trivial. However, Weyl points are yet to be discovered in nature. Here, we report photonic...

Experimental observation of Weyl points
In 1929, Hermann Weyl derived [1] the massless solutions from the Dirac equation – the relativistic wave equation for electrons. Neutrinos were thought, for decades, to be Weyl fermions until the discovery of the neutrino mass. Moreover, it has been suggested that low energy excitations in condensed matter[2–8] can be the solutions to the Weyl Hamiltonian. Recently, photons have also been propo...
متن کاملWeyl semimetals in optical lattices: moving and merging of Weyl points, and hidden symmetry at Weyl points
We propose to realize Weyl semimetals in a cubic optical lattice. We find that there exist three distinct Weyl semimetal phases in the cubic optical lattice for different parameter ranges. One of them has two pairs of Weyl points and the other two have one pair of Weyl points in the Brillouin zone. For a slab geometry with (010) surfaces, the Fermi arcs connecting the projections of Weyl points...
متن کاملPhotonic crystals possessing multiple Weyl points and the experimental observation of robust surface states
Weyl points, as monopoles of Berry curvature in momentum space, have captured much attention recently in various branches of physics. Realizing topological materials that exhibit such nodal points is challenging and indeed, Weyl points have been found experimentally in transition metal arsenide and phosphide and gyroid photonic crystal whose structure is complex. If realizing even the simplest ...
